When The World’s Tallest And Shortest Women Met In London For An Afternoon Tea…

While the women had a staggering height difference, they had many things in common that enabled them to bond with each other in the very first meet!

Guinness World Records: A rendezvous so iconic that it made global news, the tallest woman in the world came face-to-face (not quite) with the shortest woman in the world. Rumeysa Gelgi and Jyoti Amge, the tallest and shortest living women, respectively, met for the first time for an afternoon tea at the Savoy Hotel in London, on the occasion of the 20th annual Guinness World Records Day earlier this week. “Tallest and shortest women meet in London to celebrate #GWRDay2024 with ‘Iconic’ afternoon tea!” the Instagram caption read. It also mentioned that Amge and Gelgi were “looking forward to spending a lavish girls’ day out together”. They enjoyed delicious tea and pastries, as they got to know each other during a ‘relaxing morning’ in London. Take a look at the pictures.

According to Guinness — that has recognised the women for their height and other unique traits — while Gelgi stands at a towering height of 215.16 cm (7 ft 0.7 in), Amge is the shortest woman living (mobile), a title that has been with her for over a decade. She measures 62.8 cm (2 ft 0.7 in).

Between them, they have a height difference of 152.36 cm (five feet), but this gap was quickly closed when the two women became friends and bonded over their love for fashion and self-care. “Meeting Jyoti for the first time was wonderful,” Gelgi was quoted as saying, as mentioned in the Guinness website. She added: “She’s the most gorgeous lady. I was waiting to meet her for a long time.”

Amge, meanwhile, said she is “used to looking up and seeing people taller than [her]”. “…but I was so happy to look up today and see the world’s tallest woman.”

The women talked about their life experiences, hobbies, love for makeup, etc. It was, however, difficult for them to make eye contact at times, because of the difference in their height.

Gelgi also has the longest ears on a person (female), with an average size of 9.58 cm. She was born in Turkey on January 1, 1997. Guinness recognised her about a decade ago for being the ‘tallest living teenager’. Since then, she has become the world’s ‘tallest woman’, along with having the ‘longest back’, ‘largest hands’ and ‘longest finger’. When she was born, she was also the ‘longest baby’.

Amge, now an actor in Hollywood, was born on December 16, 1993 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Her height is the result of ‘achondroplasia’, a bone growth disorder that affects the arms and legs.
