Where to stay in London: Chateau Denmark review | London Daily News
Inspired by Denmark Street’s iconic history, Chateau Denmark brings together architectural and cultural heritage. The independent brand is a hotel, award-winning bars and sprawling apartments set across 16 buildings. With 44 rooms and apartments channelling design narratives that reflect the neighbourhood’s rich history, while dialling into the rebellious spirit of Soho – Chateau Denmark is inspired by the street where things were never done by half measures.
I had my first office in Denmark Street so to see it changed into a fabulous hotel is wonderful. Its still got its appeal in the heart of London and the room I stayed was decadent, stylish and perfect for a spontaneous date night. The gothic inspired room with a full bar and bath in the bedroom was just the perfect balance of decadence and sophistication. The rooms were comfortable and the bed was massive with an emphasis on great sound throughout. I was playing Gaga at full volume and didn’t care… it’s that kind of establishment! it brings out your inner rock star!
Chateau Denmark’s sprawling apartments are located in a collection of Grade II listed townhouses, a mews house, maisonette and mansion building along Denmark Street. Starting from 35 SQM, expect grandeur through illustrative and evocative wallpaper with original timber panelling; along with a sculpted fireplace opposite the standalone roll-top bathtub on a marble plinth. With a full size maxi-bar and concealed doorway leading to the powder room plus paisley patterned headboards; these apartments are an adventure, with narrow nooks and restricted door heights — retaining each buildings’ heritage status.
The staff were so polite and also very knowledgeable telling me all about the history of Denmark Street and the hotel and the amazing Now Building which is next door.
The Now Building is the largest of Outernet London’s immersive spaces. Its north-facing public atrium features a 360-degree creative canvas, courtesy of immersive media screens — the largest LED screens anywhere in the world. You can spend hours watching the most amazing films on the screen. Being a stones throw from theatre land and the biggest shows in London including The Devil Wears Prada at the Dominion starring the fabulous Vanessa Williams and Magic Mike at the Hippodrome, Chateau Denmark is my new favourite spot in London to sleep, drink and party the night away.
THIRTEEN AT CHATEAU DENMARK
I loved having drinks at the sumptuous Thirteen which is bold and energetic – bringing a different kind of theatre to Soho through texture, fabric and finish. The grand teal coloured chesterfield conversation chair sits in the centre of Thirteen, not only bringing the space together, but also creating intimacy. The cocktails were delicious and the food sensational. Downstairs there is a private room and bar which I am eyeing up for my next big birthday celebration!
