‘Who sets these prices’ – David Lloyd blasts MCC for setting ‘outrageous’ ticket prices for England vs India Test at Lord’s | Sporting News India

Former England international David Lloyd has slammed the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) for the ticket pricing at the Lord’s Cricket Ground for the upcoming England vs India Test next summer.

Rohit Sharma & Co. will travel overseas to England for a five-match Test series as a part of the World Test Championship (2025-27) cycle. The third Test of the series is scheduled at the iconic venue in London.

The Lord’s has been under scrutiny in the past on ticket pricing issues, and the 2025 Test is no different either. The cheapest tickets available for the India vs England Lord’s Test is for £90 (10000 INR approx).

What did David Lloyd say about Lord’s ticket prices?

The ticket prices for the Lord’s England vs India Test range from £90 to £175. Lloyd has lambasted the MCC for setting berserk ticket rates while reminding that the iconic venue often sets the standards for ticket prices for venues all over the world.

Speaking to News18, Lloyd said, “Paying that much for a seat where you can’t see the entire field is ridiculous. What might you miss? The batsman? A catch down at fine leg? Test cricket is in danger of becoming an event only for the elite.”

The Lancashire-born cricketer further reprimanded the MCC for not catering to the common people by setting higher prices for the crowd-luring match at Lord’s.

He added, “It risks excluding regular fans who can’t afford such high prices. Sure, it’s fun to spot celebrities in the crowd, but cricket needs to cater to everyone, not just the rich.”

‘Who sets these prices?’: David Lloyd takes a dig at MCC

The Marylebone Cricket Club is the owner of the Lord’s Cricket Ground, and are claimed to be the rule-setter for the sport. To be at that stature and set mind-blowing prices has not gone well with former England international David Lloyd.

“But who sets these prices? Who decides that £175 is fair? I’d love to know the answer. I’m speaking for the everyday fan. The kind who enjoys a football match with a pie and Bovril,” Lloyd questioned.

He added, “For us, paying £120-£175 for one day of cricket is outrageous. It feels like the MCC knows the price of everything, but the value of nothing. They’re risking losing the connection between this great England team and the public.”
